Hello,

My name is Sruti Islam, and I have recently acquired my Communications and Cultural Studies undergraduate degree at Concordia University, in Montreal, Canada. I have developed organizational and communication based skills from not only my educational background, but as well as through over five years of customer service and editorial experience, as I have spent the past three years contributing to a number of publications.

I am inquiring about any and all job opportunities. Based on my location, I am inquiring specifically about any social media related tasks, I could perhaps take on. I love this project of yours, and it is my goal to contribute to creative, informative, and original organizations like yours in a professional manner, starting in any which way I can. I would love the opportunity to help you dig through history. Furthermore, if there any opening internships and or research positions that are available in the next couple of months in Brooklyn, I would be willing to relocate.

I have copied and pasted my résumé below with further details.

A selection of writing samples can be found at:

http://sruti-i.tumblr.com

Again, I have always kept a project like this in mind as a professional aim. You can contact me at (514) 839-6458 or leave a message at (514) 748-6077. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hey there!

Congratulations on this amazing project. I recently came across this site/effort and am completely blown away. Truly amazing and thoroughly entertaining.

I’m sure you get hundreds of queries each day, so I’m hoping you can make it through the rest of this note!

My name is Dave Rubin and I have three interviews that I think would be (could be?) perfect for this series – especially the animated version. I’m sure all 3 will not meet your requirements, but I think at least one might.

Here’s the brief backstory:
In 2003, I took a position as “Intern” with the #1 rated afternoon show in Portland, OR on KNRK (FM). The show was a “rip-off” of Howard Stern, but the host was extremely talented and the show extremely successful. After my first few months serving as the show’s “Call Screener”, the host asked me (out of the blue one day, live on air) to do some interviews for the show at the upcoming Summer Sanitarium Tour in Seattle (Feat. Metallica as the headliner).

Having never actually done this before, I embarked on my virgin affair north preparing to interview Metallica, Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit.

Given the DNA of the show, the host had pre-written silly, “Stuttering John-esque” questions for me to ask. Nonetheless, my interviews with Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammet and Linkin Park went amazingly well (Limp Bizkit cancelled).

This success led me to become the go-to guy for all “rockstar interviews” for the show. And as per the show’s formula, each one was supposed to be silly and unique. (Side Note: I was 25 yrs. old, fresh out of Grad School – Communications Degree – working for free, and just looking for a way to get into the radio business)

What I have saved on my computer digitally are THREE – what I believe to be fairly standout/funny/interesting interviews with:

1) Kirk Hammett, Metallica (guitar)
2) Dave Navarro, Janes Addiction, Red Hot Chili Peppers (guitar)
3) Tom Morello, Rage Agains the Machine, Audioslave (guitar, vocals)

I have all three saved as MP3′s. The two longest pieces are approx. 20 min, with the shortest being 14. The MP3′s I have are not 100% raw, they contain interjections from the host and the show (which gives each interview full context and actually enhances the overall enjoyment/understanding) Each interview is maintained and can be heard on a near flawless audio level.

So, my question is: Are you guys interested in checking these out? As I said above, I am enthralled by your site and your idea and would be honored if you had an interest in actually listening to at least one of the interviews. I think they are fun, quirky, and pretty insightful pieces in terms of getting real, raw excerpts of some of rocks’ biggest names (the questions in each interview force the “star” to really think about who they are and how they want to react. Questions are not antagonistic, rather they lean way more towards “juvenile”). I really think there is something here and would be honored to somehow have some of these become a part of your series.

If you’ve gotten this far, I really appreciate it. I hope we might be able to work something out where at least you get a chance to listen for yourselves.

Thank you so much for your time.

Very best,
I think they are fun, quirky, and pretty insightful pieces in terms of getting real, raw excerpts of some of rocks’ biggest names (the questions in each interview force the “star” to really think about who they are and how they want to react.

Very best,

Transcript

Wilt Chamberlain: My thing I liked was to challenge guys that were smaller, guys that were supposed to be quicker. Because I think self-consciously I was trying to prove to people it wasn’t just my height that was getting me across in these various sports. It was some other intrinsic things that I had that made me a good athlete.

Ann Liguori: You had a nice childhood. A very solid childhood, and that’s very important.

Wilt Chamberlain: Yeah, you know the only thing that was not so nice was that I was this height at 14 years of age.

Ann Liguori: Seven foot?

Wilt Chamberlain: Yeah, and can you imagine going through America at that time, a man of color, a little boy, 14 years old, that height? You know, I was looked upon as a freak. Today, when you see someone close to my size or whatever, people think: “sports,” “basketball,” “zoom dollar signs.” And they don’t think “circus freak” or what have you.

[Music]

Wilt Chamberlain: The toughest thing for me was growing up and being stared at and being looked at and being talked about in that particular way. Other than that it was a good childhood.

Ann Liguori: Did it give you a complex? I mean, did it make you feel insecure: Wow, I’m so tall?

Wilt Chamberlain: You know, well, not insecure, but, you know, I kind of wanted to hide a little bit. I did not want to bring that notice to me. If I was on like the bus or we had the El, you understand, I would always sit down. I was taught to stand up and give my seat to ladies or women, and I never did. I was always just going to sit there. Because if I stood up, my head would be like almost touching the ceiling and everybody would look, so I was really quite conscious about that.

[Music]

Wilt Chamberlain: I was played the villain so much because I was bigger and stronger than most, and they cast me as the villain everywhere I went. And villains are kind of hard to really know on a personal level when you see them as mean, unsensitive-type people. And also when you have this great size, sensitivity once again is not given to you. They talk about all these things that you can do and whatever, but never do they say are you gentle, really sensitive about things. And we are. You know, a big dog tends to be much more at ease with kids and gentle with them than a little one that’s always yelping, yelping, yelping, you know? So I don’t know where they get that because you’re big you have to have this gruffness about you.

Ann Liguori: You do mention the sensitivity issue in the book about sex and how rewarding it felt for you that the woman would find you very sensual and sensitive, that it was a shock to some people that you could be that way.

Wilt Chamberlain: Well, let’s talk about that a second. You know, I say that you want to be treated just like everybody else in that respect, but on the other hand: viva la difference.

[Music]

Wilt Chamberlain: I think my attraction, if there was attraction that women had for me, was the fact that I was different. Of course when you’re famous, you have a little more money than some people and you’re involved in something like professional sports: that’s an attraction. But I think a lot of ladies found me so attractive because I was different. And I acted on that in a way.

[Music]

Wilt Chamberlain: I think that Wilt Chamberlain, as age has come upon him, is even much more secure. Even though I can do less, I feel much more secure about it.

It’s the author of books like Fight Club, Snuff and Rant, showing his caring and romantic side. An excerpt:

Q: Now you’ve had as the subjects of your last few novels porn and terrorism, and the next thing is hell. Is there a need for you to go more provocative with each book? Of course you have this male fan base which is expecting you to go wild…

A: Well, between Damned and the next book I wrote two very quiet, serious little books. But there’s something about a quiet serious little book that I didn’t find very fulfilling, so I just set them aside. Because they didn’t keep my attention. I really wanted something that would excite me more. And so my books kind of run out of control and become extreme not necessarily because I think other people want that, but because I want to do something really extreme on the page. I want the story to keep me very present, very engaged. It’s my low threshold for boredom that makes the books that way.

Q: So where did these quiet books suddenly come from then?

A: [pause] On one level they came from just my growing older, and they came from, um… I wrote this year’s book, Damned, while I was taking care of my mother, she had cancer, and when she died, that’s when I finished Damned. And, there really was a year, or year and a half after that where things were really quiet in my life, and I didn’t know what was next. That’s when I wrote the really quiet books. So, I think that’s why. I think I was still kind of shocked. But they’re not books I’d plan to publish.

Q: They are just for yourself?

A: I think so.

Q: People have been reading this political layer into your books, especially Fight Club. You could say there’s a socio-critical aspect to your books because of the transgressiveness, because of the characters which do not fit into society. Is this important to you as a writer?

A:[pause] I never really think of the books as political books… Years ago, I saw the writer Joseph Campbell in an interview and he was talking about why streetgangs still exist, despite all the work that’s being done to get rid of them. And he said that streetgangs serve the purpose of continuing and finishing the maturation of boys. The family can only take the boy to a certain level, beyond that level it needs to be a different person, typically a coach or a military drill instructor. But it’s someone beyond the family, who gives the boy tasks and missions and sends him off to accomplish these things. Streetgangs do that. And in accomplishing the tasks, which grow harder and harder, the kids gain a sense of self-esteem, and power. And so in a way, especially with Fight Club, I just wanted to depict an organization that was empowering individuals in gradually greater and greater ways. And eventually the organization itself would disappear, leaving behind a big population of empowered individuals. It wasn’t about creating an organization that would live forever, but about creating grown-up human beings that would have a sense of what they were capable of doing. That’s what I wanted to depict.

So in a way, society is beyond the point, it is not even in the picture. It is not really a political novel, all my novels are very much about empowering the individual. That’s all I’ve ever seen them as.

Q: You have also said that all your books are about a lonely person trying to connect to other people. Is that similar to the individual trying to become empowered?

A: Trying to connect, be part of a community, but also recognizing how much they’re capable of. That they could be living a much larger life than they ever would have imagined. I’m always shocked when I think about how my life has changed from where I came from. I grew up so poor, in the country, and now I’m in Amsterdam, in a place like this, it’s just astounding. My parents would never have expected this. This is impossible, it’s like a dream. But that’s what I want to depict in the books: people recognizing that really anything is possible, and that they have a capability of achieving things even beyond the wildest things they can imagine. [silence] Sorry, I just went on and on.

Q: No, that was a great explanation. But I do wonder then, in books like Snuff and Survivor, your characters don’t end up very well…

A: They end with…love. Or at least the character having…That’s the other pattern in my books, I think of it in terms of good boy – bad boy – old man. The characters start out as these very obedient children, who have done everything that they have been told they should do in order to be happy and to be succesful. And they have done it up to a certain point, when they start to realize that it’s not gonna make them happy. It’s gonna make their parents happy, maybe. But at that point, they start to misbehave, they start to become the bad boy, the rebel, who instead of obeying the rules is breaking them. And then at some point beyond that, they have to combine their obedience, and their misbehavior, and they have to become a stable adult person. At the end.

Hi David,

I’m a curator based in Los Angeles. I curate a quarterly short film series at the Hammer Museum. I also have a museum exhibition currently up in NYC at the Museum of the Moving Image about the art of the music video, Spectacle.

Our next Flux Screening Series at the Hammer is coming up May 22nd and we would love to screen the Beastie Boys segment as part of our program. The series is part of the museum’s Public Programing and is free to the public to attend. We would be able to credit Blank on Blank in the printed program notes and on screen as well.

Would you let us include this segment and if so do you have a high-quality version suitable for projection?

best,

[Comment] => You’re not earning nearly enough from your space. Ads don’t pay well and rarely do they match site content.

I’m Geoff, an engineer who’s known for a long time, ads unrelated to site content are rarely clicked. The question always remained why haven’t affiliate marketers updated their service? From this unending wait Ministore was created to fix the whole “we need to get paid” problem. Ministore connects merchants to their targeted audience, with a new format and earn options for websites:

Hello,

First of all, congratulations on doing such a great job!

I am a spanish journalist who works in the news programme of a national TV channel, LA SEXTA. I would like to make a piece of news about Blank on Blank (90 seconds of video)

http://www.lasexta.com/

The problem is that I need more than just your awesome animated videos. I would like to know if you have any video with the tapes you receive, opening the envelopes, maybe a kind of making-of that I can use to talk about how you do your job. Obviously, the most important part of the video would be the stories… but I need something else to talk about your idea.

If you have a making of you can send me via “we transfer”, please tell me!

I would LOVE to tell to all Spain about your beautiful ans inspiring idea.

Thank you!
