It’s been quite a run since the first Blank on Blank animated interview was released with our friends at PBS Digital Studios back in 2012. Remember Larry King on Getting Seduced? Since then we’ve released 50+ episodes that have been viewed 9 million times. Now we’re on the hunt for more lost interviews as we crank up production of the 4th season of Blank on Blank.
We’re sending out the call to friends of the show, journalists and institutions that have collaborated with us, and everyone out there who has amazing interview tapes that should be brought to life. The new season will kick off this spring with episodes featuring: Martin Scorsese, Patti Smith, Cher, Rod Serling, Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan, Steven King, Toni Morrison, Keith Richards, Sean Connery, Jane Fonda, Joan Didion, Nora Ephron, and Aldous Huxley.
To round out the group, we’re searching for more intriguing, rarely heard conversations with a diverse range of musicians, writers, actors, and other iconic figures. Here are just some names on the wishlist: Audrey Hepburn, Alan Rickman, Axl Rose, Michael Kane, Elizabeth Taylor, River Phoenix, Sylvia Plath, Freddie Mercury, Prince, The Notorious B.I.G, Robert Redford, Paul Newman, Stanley Kubrick, Elvis, Jim Henson, Kanye West (vintage), and Madonna.
Interested in collaborating? What do you have on tape? Or maybe you know other journalists, publications, writers, or friends that have interviews that are just waiting to be heard? Drop us a note to interviews at blankonblank dot org. Or fill out the submission form below.
Why collaborate? It’s easy. All you have to do is get us the interview. Either upload a digital version or we’ll cover the cost of sending us the tape, minidisc, reel-to-reel. We’ll digitize the analog and send you back a copy, a transcript, and, of course, your original. Contributors keep all interview rights plus we provide a honorarium for allowing us to remix excerpts from the conversation. In addition we love to promote new projects that our contributors are working on when we release a Blank on Blank. More info on the ease of working with us can be found here.
We’ve brought to life interviews from a broad array our sources, from journalists who’ve written for WIRED, Esquire, Rolling Stone, SPIN, and the Boston Globe, to archives at The University of Texas, WNYC, the JFK Library, the Studs Terkel Radio Archive and the Library of Congress. So what are you waiting for?
Let us know if you’re interested in working together or have any questions. And please forward this link to (blankonblank.org/blog/remix-your-tapes) to any one that might be interested in Blank on Blank.
We’re looking forward to hearing from you.
– David
Executive Producer of Blank on Blank
P.S. We’re also working on a few special projects involving presidents, hall of fame athletes, and notable artists. So if you have interviews connected to those arenas, please let us know.
